First Place Winner

This could well be an illustration out of a H.G. Wells novel. There is plentiful of details here thanks to the wide choice of stocks put together in a seamless way. Perfectly executed work! We love how the light beam brings both the alien ship and the little boy into the foreground. Scary! what is going to happen now?

Second Place Winner

The artist in this work opted for the emotional aspect of the apocalypse on a large scale; and we love it! Not to mention the flawless technique (those fireballs are just WOW!) and
the desolated but beautiful scenery. Excellent!

Third Place Winner

The artist in this instance opted for the Fantasy approach to the contest's theme and for symbolism rather than presenting us with the apocalyptic movie inspired image that would have been expected. We love the atmosphere and the colors! The fact that Death is on crutches kind of gives it a tongue-in-cheek factor which we also like!

I have decided to extend the deadline to May 30, due to the disappointing number of entries. The entries so far are wonderful, but a few more entries are needed to make this interesting! There are great prizes to win, and you can check them at the bottom of this journal.
On the other hand, I'm even more disappointed at the huge amount of submissions made into the Contest Gallery folder that have nothing to do with the contest itself! People, be nice and don't waste my time anymore! The folder titled CONTEST- The World Ends Today is only for the contest entries!!! Make your regular submissions to the rest of gallery folders. If the rest of folders are closed to submissions, I apologize for being so curt, but that does not concern me! I'm not a moderator and so I don't have power over the group. I'm a Contest Holder. There's nothing I can do to help if you make your submissions into the Contest folder; I can only reject them.

Announcing The World Ends Today Contest for our members back at

Who hasn't heard of the ultimate Cataclysm,  which according to the Maya calendar is supposed to strike us the 21st of December 2012? Imagine that Doomsday is upon us. How do you imagine it will happen? How do you feel about it? What would you do on your last day in this world? In this Contest we wish the see your interpretation of The End of the World, plagued with fear, terror, dread.  You can find some inspiration for the contest in the feature below

How to enter the contest

First, you must be a member of the group. If you are not one yet, you are welcome to join our membership!

You may submit your entry in the World Ends Today Contest gallery folder, which will be open from the first of February. If you encounter any problems to submit into that folder, send us a note with a link to your entry.

In your deviation's description, you must include something like the following:
"This is my entry to the World Ends Today Challenge held at

General Contest info

The medium used in this contest is Photomanipulation.

According to the contest theme, it must depict your interpretation of Doomsday, the Great Cataclysm, the End.

Must be a new work, not submitted before the start of this contest. You must state that you made this work specifically for the Contest in your description.

All stocks used must be properly credited with a link to the stock image used.  You can use stock both from deviantArt and from other stock sites, such as sxc.hu, dreamstime, shutterstock , stockxpert, etc, but you must credit them all the same. Purchased stock must be credited too, as well as other resources that could have been used, like textures and brushes. If you use your own resources, please state so. Works that contain material which infringes or might infringe copyright will be rejected. Works that fail to credit all stocks used will be turned down too, so make sure not to forget anything (the longer the list the better, as more stock means a harder work).

Only one entry per member.

Admins can also participate, but only for fun! The prizes are for the group members.

There will be a Third Place, Second Place and First place winner. EmberRoseArt will be doing the judging, with help from the group admins. There will also be an Honorable Mentions feature for the runners up.

The Contest runs from February 1st to May 30th. The deadline won't be expanded anymore.
